Dean Harrison Receives His Championship Ring

Japanese company, CSA became a unique sponsor of all three races organised by Southern 100 Racing last year supplying unique Medallions and Championship Rings for all race winners in the Pre-TT, Post TT and the Southern 100 Road Races.

The Championship Rings for the Southern 100 Solo Champion and the Sidecar Champion Driver and Passenger are a bespoke design by ‘Knack’ who also hand crafts the individual rings.

Dean Harrison won the prestigious Hunts Motorcycles sponsored Solo Championship Race in 2018, repeating his success of the previous year and was suitably measured for the fitting of his unique Championship Ring.

The silver ring with a gold three-legs setting in the centre mounted on a green stone was presented to Dean during the 2019 TT Races by Southern 100 Club President Phil Taubman MBE and the craftsman of the ring ‘Knack’.

Knack described the reason for the colours, explaining that there are three colour features; for the first year of winning the Solo Championship, the stone is black.

Retaining the Championship for a second year the green stone represents the fields around the Billown Course and to achieve a hat-trick, three years in a row, the stone colour will be yellow, in honour of the first rider who achieved this feat Joey Dunlop OBE, MBE in 1976, 1977 and 1978 and yellow is of course one of the Southern 100 Club’s official colours.

Up until 2019, only one other competitor had emulated Joey’ ‘triple’ and that was Guy Martin in 2013, 2014 & 2015.

Dean Harrison became the third rider to join this rare status in 2019 and the extra special ring is currently being handcrafted in Japan in preparation for an official presentation soon and the Yorkshireman will be the first rider to receive such a ring.
