The weekend before it all begins!
The Isle of Man Steam Packet Southern 100 Road Races 2023 is nearly upon us, and we can’t wait. The paddock has started to fill as teams flock towards Castletown for the friendly races.
If you are already on the Island there is plenty of events to attend this weekend.
Saturday – 52nd World Tin Bath Championship
Held in Middle Harbour in Castletown this event is, as it sounds, a race around the harbour in strictly regulated tin baths, some of which may be less than seaworthy. Organised by the Castletown Real Ale Drinkers Society the race was started in 1971 and all the money raised by the event goes to local charities.
Over 100 entrants attempt the 400m course each year including visitors from around the world. In addition to the main race there is plenty else to do on the day including the “Snake Race” around the harbour and attempts at human-powered flight to watch, making it an ideal day out for the family.
This year there is even a price for the highest place Southern 100 rider or crew member. A physiologic head start ahead of the road races (even if it is in a tin bath)? View what to expect in the video below.
Sunday – Pre Southern 100 Sprint Enduro
The Pre Southern 100 Sprint Enduro is being held by Ramsey Motorcycle Club on Sunday. The sprint enduro will see riders doing multiple timed laps on motocross and enduro bikes throughout the day. There are also a couple of children’s classes.
The event is being held at West Kimmeragh in Bride. View the location on a map here.
It all gets underway at 10am with an untimed lap. The video below will give you an idea of what you can expect.
Whatever you get up to this weekend, we hope you enjoy our beautiful Island and we will see you on the Colas Billown Circuit on Monday evening.
