Celebrating Sally’s Outstanding Service

Southern 100 Road Races would like to pay tribute to Dr Sally Simmons, who has stepped down as our Chief Medical Officer following this year’s Isle of Man Steam Packet Company Southern 100 Road Races, bringing to a close more than a decade of outstanding service on the Motor Isle Billown Course.

Sally first joined our medical team in 2013, initially working trackside before taking on the Chairborne role in Race Control. Following the retirement of Dr David Stevens MBE after the 2014 Southern 100, Sally was appointed Chief Medical Officer in 2015, a position she has carried out with exceptional professionalism, dedication and enthusiasm ever since.

Originally from Guernsey, Sally is a former Armed Forces doctor and is a General Practitioner in Alderney in the Channel Islands. An experienced BASICS doctor with extensive expertise in pre-hospital emergency care, Sally also has a lifelong passion for motorcycles, making her a perfect fit for the unique challenges of motorcycle road racing.

Throughout her time as Chief Medical Officer, Sally has worked tirelessly to develop and strengthen the medical aspect of the Southern 100, building a team that is rightly regarded as one of the very best in motorsport. Her calm leadership, attention to detail and unwavering commitment to rider safety have earned the respect and admiration of everyone involved with the Southern 100.

Reflecting on her final meeting as Chief Medical Officer, Sally said:

“It was my last day as CMO at the Southern 100 Road Races last Thursday. It was a very emotional day which thankfully passed without serious incident.

I cannot thank the Southern 100 MRMS team enough for everything you all have done to support me over the past 13 years since I started there initially trackside, and then Chairborne in Race Control. I love the fact you keep coming back for more because you also love the different vibe at Billown!

We have built one of the finest motorsport medical teams at this hugely friendly racing event and I know it is going to be in good hands with Dr Paul Hancock leading the team, ably assisted by Richard Cassidy in Race Control, the senior doctors, paramedics, nurses and of course our Hogg Motorsport Association and St John Ambulance technicians around the course.”

Southern 100 Road Races Chairman George Peach paid tribute to Sally’s remarkable contribution to the event.

“On behalf of the Southern 100, I would like to thank Sally for everything she has done for our meeting over the past 13 years. Her dedication, professionalism and genuine passion for the sport have been second to none.

The medical service at the Southern 100 is something we are immensely proud of and Sally has been instrumental in developing a team that is respected throughout the sport. While her knowledge and leadership will undoubtedly be missed, her legacy will continue through the outstanding people she has helped mentor and develop.

Sally has become a great friend to so many of us at Billown, and whilst we are sad to see her step down as Chief Medical Officer, she will always be welcomed as part of the Southern 100 family. We thank her sincerely for everything she has given to the event and wish her every happiness for the future.”

Everyone at the Southern 100 Road Races extends their heartfelt thanks to Sally for her years of dedication and service and wishes her all the very best for the future.

The Club also welcomes Dr Paul Hancock as Chief Medical Officer and looks forward to working with him and the entire medical team as they continue to build on the exceptional foundations established by Sally.
