ITV4 Features Southern 100 – 2022
The Isle of Man Steam Packet Company Southern 100 Road Races returned after a 1096 day sabbatical and certainly reminded everyone present and those listening to the extended live coverage on Southern 100 Radio what a splendid spectacle of road racing it is with no less than four race records broken, six lap records, plus the sidecar absolute lap record being broken during the championship race and the solo absolute lap record being broken not once but twice, the final time during the feature solo championship race.
Milenco by Padgett’s Honda rider Davey Todd, returned after making his debut in 2018 and whilst he won five races all bar one within hundredths of a second, none were decided until the chequered cloth had been shown.
Double three-time Solo Champions, Michael Dunlop, and Dean Harrison were left to battle for the other podium places, although they both scored a victory apiece during the four-day meeting, as did arch rivals in the Lightweight (Supertwins) races, Yorkshires Jamie Coward, and Lancashire’s Rob Hodson.
2019 Sidecar Champions Pete Founds and Jevan Walmsley returned and continued where they left off three years earlier, although previous champions, Tim Reeves, Greg Lambert, and the sons of Nick Crowe, certainly made them earn their silver ware.
If you were lucky enough to be on the Isle of Man for the ‘friendly races’ you can relive your experience by watching ITV4 on Friday 29th July and Monday 1st August – two hours of highlights, both programmes starting at 20.00 (8.00pm). The highlights programme has been filmed and produced by Greenlight Television and is a round of the King of the Roads Series.
If you were unable to be on the Island for the Southern 100, you will be able to see what you missed and organise yourself for 2023, 10th – 13th July.
