Strict Drone Ban In Force During Pre-TT Classic Road Races & Southern 100 Road Races

Residents and visitors are reminded not to use drones over the Billown Course during the Pre-TT Classic Road Races and Southern 100 Road Races with potential prosecution and fines for those that infringe a ‘no drone zone’.

Individuals are asked to observe the following drone ‘no fly’ zones which will be in place in 2026 and apply to all drones, regardless of their weight or size:

  • Pre-TT Classic drone ‘no-fly’ zone: from 22 May until the end of 24 May, covering airspace within and in the vicinity of the Billown Course.
  • Southern 100 drone ‘no-fly’ zone: from 6 July until the end of 9 July, covering airspace within and in the vicinity of the Billown Course.
  • Daily operating times: restrictions apply from one hour before the first road closure each day until the final road opening.

Deputy Director of Civil Aviation, Colin Gill, said:

“The airspace above and adjacent to the Billown Course is restricted to all drones during motorcycle events. Drones can pose a serious distraction to riders. Marshals are instructed to report any drone sightings immediately to race control and the police, which may result in practice or racing being stopped.’

Permission has been granted for the Isle of Man Constabulary and the event’s official media partners to operate drones within the restricted areas, following coordination with race control, helicopter operators and the Civil Aviation Administration.”

Breaching a restriction is an offence punishable on conviction by a fine of up to £10,000.
