1963 Sidecar Champion Dies

Southern 100 Racing are saddened to learn of the passing of Sidecar driver, Chris Vincent on Thursday 18th February 2021. 

Having successfully conquered the rigours of the Snaefell Mountain Course in winning the 1962 Sidecar TT, Chris Vincent’s next Challenge was the Billown Course, home of the Southern 100. 

Making a special journey back from Belgium, Chris and passenger Keith Scott made their debut at the ‘southside’ course in July 1963.

On their BSA outfit, they lead the nine-lap race from start to finish at an average speed of 75.330mph and set the fastest lap of 3 minutes 16.2 seconds equal to 77.980mph. 

A winning debut ride in only the second sidecar race held on the 4.25-mile course at the time, it was to be the Sidecar ace’s only race at the July meetting, as although he was entered to race again in the 1969, he was a non- starter. 

Chris Vincent was well respected and admired by his racing rivals and he certainly left a lasting impression for those present on Thursday 11th July 1963 as he wrote his name into the racing history of the Southern 100 Road Races.
